Dear John opening two minutes.

This opening starts with opening titles 'screen gems' , as non- digetic sound of soft gentle music is introduced and a new opening title is introduced ' Relativity Media'. and 'temple hill'. When it fades into darkness when a male voice over is introduced on a high angle shot of a soldier wounded on the ground. over the non- digetic sound appears gun shots and battle (digetic sound). high angle shot pans out into a wide shot showing the settings around this soldier as one of his fellow companion helps him up against the wall.

This shot zooms closer the two soldiers and cuts into a close up of a young boy as coins fall apon him in a flash back from a young solider. A panning shot of coins and digetic sound of them falling over the continuing Non-Digetic voice over. As the coins fall down it cuts into another high angle shot. A medium shot of the young boy is then showed helping the audience connect with him.  close up match on action shot is then introduced when someone is holding he coin in there hand. This turns back into a close up of the soldier and his wondered body. Followed by a point of view shot of the soldier looking up into a fellow collogue as he is wounded on the ground.  Another close up on falling coins as his voice over talks about them.

A point of view shot is again put into action to show the soldier coming around from his injury and followed by an long high angle shot of him laying on the ground as it zooms into a close up shot and fades into darkness.  This soldier is given prevence that shows that he will be important in the upcoming event of the film and this keeps the audience watching interested as they  want to see who this person the young soldier is talking about when he said the last thing he thought about.

Costume of my actors in my opening two minutes of Elvira.

This is the costume of Elvira this is designed to stagger the audience after you see Chris's mangled body the camera pans into this show where it simply looks like an average girl. That's what this costume is designed to do. In the bottom picture you can see Character Chris's costume he is wearing a stereotypical outfit of a teenage boy and that's exactly what I wanted, he looks young by what he is wearing and so the setting he is in helps him look vulnerable to the audience watching which is what  I wanted to achieve.

Actors list.

This is Kieron who plays Chris and killed by Elvira in the opening two minutes..

This is Megan who plays main character and possessed girl Elvira and kills Chris in opeming two minutes.

I am Legend opening scene

Opens with a extreme wide shot of New York city. and digetic sound of the busy city. cuts into a of medium shot of a run down part of the city. The is again digetic sound of silence all you can hear is the wind blowing and the birds singing. This shows the audience no humans are around that its abandoned and leaves the audience wondering why. there is then a high angle shot of a building that slowly pans down. to show that this whole city is empty. this cuts into a wide shot of an over grown street with all power gone. a birds eye view is then introduced over the building and pans over this abandoned city.

This then cuts into a close up match on action shot of a male picking up a gun. That follows with a medium shot showing a this man driving his car. and pans over to show he has a dog in the passenger seat. This could suggest to the audience that he has a close relationship with this dog and does all he can to protect it. This then cuts into a wide shot of the dogs head as it hangs out the car window. and pans out to a another wide shot but of the car driving through this abandoned city. with digetic sound off birds as the flea into the air. followed by a point of view shot of the man in the car driving through this abandoned city to try make the audience contect to what he is thinking and feeling. as the car drifts around the corner there is a use of a low angle shot so that audience watching can see this stunt in action.

The camrea then pans into a tank that is covered in posters that read "god still loves us " creating anticipation to the audience watching and keeping them drawn into watching them film.a wide shot of the abandoned city is then put into the shot when the camera pans following the car as it drives down the road and therfore giving the car and the man and dog in it prevence, resulting in the audience feeling they will have a great importance in the film. As the car enters down a building the camera shot turns to a point of view shot from the car stuggling to get through a tight area this build suspence for the audience watching. and cuts out into a medium shot as it leaves this building.

slowly panning to a hight angle shot of this covered building. and follows through the end of the street. this cuts into another medium shot of the dog in the car showing the audience that this dog does hold importance to the film and storyline ahead. this cuts into a medium shot of the young male when he says "what was that boy?" to his dog this is digetic sound. when it quickly cuts into a point of view shot from the car and something leaps across the car. This quickly cuts out into a extreme close up to show the reaction of this young male. and panns out into a wide shot of the car turning course.

Kieron- It was very cold and took a while for Brandy and Megan to establish each shot..

Question - did you enjoy filming elvira ??

Kieron- yes I enjoyed the make up of me when I had been killed by elvira and I felt it was very realistic..

Question - what you watch elvira at the cinema ??

Kieron- definitely it seems really good and I love horror films.

codes and conventions in my open two minutes of Elvira

Our Villain Was mentally disturbed and possessed by a demand which is a typical convention for a horror film..

Our film was set in the woods alone from everyone again a typical convention of a horror film.

Victim was male that isn't a typical convention of a horror film as I wanted to subvert traditional stereotypes of horror films.

Time management

We spent two days filming in Ashtead woods back in December. We only faced one problem Which was the actors we originally had couldn't make it to film.

We had to change the story line and I had my brother come to help me with my film and he played character Chris. So we drafted another story line that would still work well with our film and that was the final outcome of our film.

represention and stereotypes

Character Chris played by Kieron is representing teenage male being radical and not thinking sensibly ( walking through wood oneed his own))

Elvira played by Megan is a troubled young female possessed by a demand , a stereotype of a villain found in a horror film.

I wanted to subvert traditional stereotypes of a horror film.. These being that girls weak and the victims and men powerful and more superior to the girls which is why I switch traditional roles and had the villain being a girl and the victim being a Male.

Shot list that were in my film.

These were the shots that I used in the opening two minutes of my film Elvira :

- High angle shot
- Birds eye view shot
- Medium shot
- Long shot
- Wide shot
- Close up shot
- Match on action shot
- Panning shot
- over the shoulder shot

As you can see I used a range of shots in my opening two minuets of Elvira so that I could show the story and captivate my audience in wanting to watch the rest of the film.

Influences I had on my final production.

'The Ward' influenced my villain for my horror film being a possessed and mentally disturbed being as I felt this film represented that in such a great way that I wanted to to put my own spin on this type of villain in a horror film.

I wanted to subvert the traditional stereotypes of a horror film. being that women are weak and the victims and men being powerful and superior 'Jennifer s Body' another influential film to my film subverted the traditional stereotypes of a horror film having the women being superior to men as she killed men. so this why the villain in my film is a female and the victim is a male.

The settings of my film were influenced by films such as 'Twilight and Jennifer body' as they were set in the woods and that is where the victims in these films were killed.

Editing and film making tutorial that helped me when making my film.

This video helped me see how basic shots have an effective representation to the viewer watching and how how the same actor in the same position on the same setting can have a different effect on the audience just by the different use of camera shots. Showed me a full range of shots that can be used in film making and how editing them can be very important to put the story you want across to the audience. this was helpful by the example they gave me.

Editing and film making tutorial I used that helped me when making my film

This video helped me to establish how to create well made shots and lighting composition without use of major equipment. I also leant that. simple use of mise-en-scene like props and costume can create certain feel you may want to put across in your film. It also taught me the rules of filming that I had used in my preliminary task but how to use these rules effectively so that they can build suspense in a film.

The ward opening two mins

Titles : Echo lake entertainment productions and themed music is first shows and quickly fades out, when noises of the deep ocean is introduced and A bigger boat titles quickly fades in an out. Followed by Nation entertainment titles fade in and out.

Then creepy music (Non-Digetic sound) is introduced with a extreme wide shot of a gloomy and dark building, this is quickly followed by a medium shot of a sign next to this building that says "North Bend, Phycriactic Hospital" this shows the audience where the horrific events of the film are going to take place.

A Digetic sound of a buzzing generator then enters with a wide shot of an abandoned part of the building enters the screen. This is followed by a high angle shot of a flickering light that follows but quick pace cuts of shots from each part of the hospital and a match on action shot of a villain choosing a tool to use on its next victim. Digetic sound of the villains deep breathing is introduced as a point of view shot from the villain enters the screen. The hall way is flickering from the lighting that is taking place outside.  This is followed by Digetic sound of the villains footprints walking down the hall way of the hospital.

Next a birds eye view shot is shown of the victim on her bed curled into a ball looking out her bedroom door window in anticipation to suggest to the audience she knows of this villain walking the hallways to suggest the story line has already begun. This is then cut back to a panning point of view shot from the villain as she turns and look at the sign next to the door window that reads"Tammy" suggesting to the audience that the girl were just saw is called Tammy and she will be the first victim of this villain that we will see. The point of view shot then has us looking straight at Tammy When it cuts into a low angle shot of the villains feet peeking though Tammy's door way.

There is then a close up of Tammy to show the audience her fear and digetic sound of her panic when she starts breathing extremely deep. The sound of the door opening the enters as we see pure fear on Tammy's face. Non-dietetic sound of intensive music then starts building and Tammy screams when its cut into darkness leaving the audience feeling anxious of what happened.

Conventions of an action film

Villain of a action film is stereotypically deformed, feminine or immigrants.

Normally in an action film the hero is masculine, muscular and tough. The hero is normally given a love interest that ends up putting him in dangerous situations, however the love interest is usually introduce to attract the female audience to also watch their film even though their main target audience is male for an action film.

In most action films their will involve car chase, gun shots, fight scenes, murder and explosions this creates excitement for those who are watching the film for during these scene the tension builds.

Conventions of a horror film

Villains of a horror film are typically Zombies, possessed creatures, paranormal activity, mentally disturbed people, cereal killers, vampires and demands.

the settings of a horror film are typically woods, forests, haunted house, abandoned buildings, mental hospitals or small towns.

camera shots that are often used within horror films are close up shots of victims face to show their fear to express upset to the audience watching to have that audience emphasise with that person. Wide shots to get a fall view of each setting the the villain attacks on of their victims. Lastly birds eye view shot to show how vulnerable the victim is when the villain is in attack mode, making the audience feel anxious of the upcoming events with in the film.

Favourite film of all time

Honey is my favourite film for many reasons, one would be for the music that is throughout the film. This was the music I was grew up to and really the music that I love. The story of the film is that any thing is possible when you believe in yourself and this is something that I think to my self when making decisions to my future.

The dance scenes in this film are well choreographed and because of this show a real art and as a viewer is really amazing to watch. This young women is also a good role model to me growing up as her life was built on helping others less fortunate than herself. She lived in a middle class background and her parents didn't accept her career as a dancer and felt it was impractical yet she continued to do this with out her parents blessing as it was her passion and love, growing up I was a female footballer and all i got was people telling me that I shouldn't be playing football because i was a girl and this film helped me to see that the things we love most in life is not because of the acceptance but the love of what we are doing and so this film is held dear to me as it helped me form the girl I am today.

preliminary task

                                                                   preliminary task

My preliminary task featured two fellow students. One was my fellow group member Beth Rowe and the other was fellow student Chloe Young. Chloe took a book from the self, then made a start  to read the book when she was interrupted by Beth about not being at practice.she then breaks down in tears following by Beth confiding her.

Proposal opening two mins

Starts of with music (Non-Digetic sound) playing in the background when two production credits Touch Stone and Landwilde films fade in and out. the is the a panning view of woods that cut into and over the shoulder shot of a young women on a bike and the a wide shot of the riding this exercise bike in her apartment.

The is then a Birds eye view of a man sleeping when his Alarm clock goes of (Digetic sound) waking him up. This when cuts in to a wide shot when he looks at the time and leaps from his bed.  This then cuts onto a close up of the women looking into her mirror. fast panning shot is then introduce as the young man running though the town to suggest to the audience he is a rush to get somewhere. This then cuts into a medium shot of the female in her apartment having a coffee to suggest to the audience she has no worries.

This then cuts back into a face pace panning of the man entering a coffee shop when the worker says to him two regular lattes. this suggests to the audience that he comes her often and has them guessing who the other drink is for. and the cuts into another fast panning shot of the man running across the shop into a building.

Both the male and female being given prevence in the first two minutes of this film also has the audience watching questioning that they will have a link to the later story of the film.

Never back down opening two mins.

The name of the film first appears with Non-Digetic sound (music ) that is intensive and loud. The Name title then fades out into the background of the lighted football pitch. The first camera shot is off another camera filming the events of this football game and then zooms out into a wide shot of the game taking place. Digetic sound of the audience of this football match cheering is introduced to make the audience understand what is going on.

This is followed by a close up of a young man's face and then the camera is panning around the action of the game taking place. The camera however seems to follow around the man in the first close up giving him prevence to suggest to the audience watching that he is important to the rest of the film and therefore keeping them engaged into continuing to watch the film.  The music then starts to intensify as the tension of the game builds and the tension between the two quarterbacks build. The music then stops when the game finishes.

A comment is then made about the young man's farther who has been given prevence  and the music is then reintroduced and the pace of the film again starts to build, following a extreme close up of this young mans face to show the audience watching his anger from this comment made.

The camera then pans around this man as he fights and takes down his opposition and then finishes with a wide shot of all the football players fighting on the pitch and leaving the audience wondering what it is about  this character and the mentioning of his farther that makes him so angry and so having the audience engaged in the first two minutes of watching this film

Twilight braking dawn part two opening two minutes

The tiles of this film is very effective it started with the summit entertainment title and the cut into a birds eye view panning shot over one setting of the film the woods. The is titles in both white and red to suggest the film will have darkness and light in. the is then a long panning shot of dawn over hills when the title of the film then appears. then colour contrasts from darks red to grey as the characters names are being titled.

the setting of the film is on constant viewing during the opening titles and the same non- digetic sound (music) in the background it starts of soft and gentle but eventually picks up tempo and becomes loud. Their are a few bits of editing where from shots that show the characters names that fades into actual settings of the film. also the shots and titles start at slow pace with the soft and gentle music but as the tempo of the music starts to increase so does the speed of each frame to the titles. this is effective because it helps to build up tension to those who are watching and keeps them  interested to what is going to happen next and as a result keeps the view to watching the rest of the scene

Genre of my film

The Genre of my film is Horror. Having this a the genre of my film meant that I still had a range of things that I could use in my film. Horror films have a range of villains. zombies, possessed people, ghosts, cereal killers, haunted dolls and so on.  This meant that I had a range of characters and story lines to choose from. However I wanted to do something different, I wanted to subvert the stereotypes of horror films rather than convert to them and this is why I had a male victim as I wanted my film to be different to every other film having the victims being helpless women. I also had my villain being a female to show her as the strong and powerful character subverting the stereotype of women and girls being weak and less superior to men.

location research of my film

This is where we chose to set our film. This is a small town with a big woods that is ideal for the settings of our film. The woods are spooky with a lot of space to film in. Wood are a stereotypical location for horror films that involve mystery deaths.  This was a perfect location for my film as there was no one around so the film had the feel we wanted it to have, but also their was no noise of anyone around which meant when it came to the digetic sound to our film nothing had to be cut out.

Harry potter deathly hallows part one, opening two minutes

The opening title of warner brothers is especially very distinctive to the film you are watching.
You can see the warner brothers sign is broken and dark, unlike the past films this is because the villain voldemort is at large and show the audience that the film they are about to watch is also starting to get very dark.

There is music filled with tension the starts when the warner brothers titles come in and the sound builds getting louder and louder to draw the audience in, the music then stops on a close up of the minister of magic and he starts his digetic monologue.the close up of this characters face is to show the audience the fear that is clear to our eyes all though what he is saying would seem to be different maybe this is because they want the audience to know that darkness is coming.
while this character continues to speak the close up shots turns to a medium shot to show the audience possibly the details to this new character. there is then flashing lights of the media and a extreme wide shot to show the setting of the film. this is a great place that only light is by the flashing lights of the media to show that the power of the wizard world no longer lies with the ministry of magic.

This followed by a change in setting, a bedroom of a teenage girl. A match on action shot is used to show this young girl reading a newspaper about the villain and his crew the death killing 'mood bloods' human wizards. A wide shot is then used to show this young female in her bedroom. Just when you hear the voice of her mother calling her for tea. There is then a close up of her face as she reply to her mother there is a crackle in her voice to suggest to the audience she is possibly scared for their safety due to these villains being at large. In the close up of this young females face you can also see the pain and upset in her eyes this is designed to make the audience also fear for this family's safety.

The is the gloomy music - non - digetic sound that is played into the film. the streets appear dark when there is a long shot of harry potters road to suggest that darkness is coming. You see a panic of the family that cares for harry potter. it then turns in to a long shot of the Wesley house. you can see the the young male also shows fear for the upcoming events like previous characters in the past few scenes. the non- digetic sound (music) becomes loud and more intensive to build the tension for the viewers watching. This is the last part of the opening  two minutes.

Evaluation- What targets will you set yourself for G324 next year - When you will make a trailer?

I have learnt for my year doing G321 coursework that I need to become more organised and this will help me succeeded with more post and in greater detail. I would also have created more footage so that I had a longer film. I also would plan out the exact shots I want and have a more distinctive storyline this would show that I was in control of my project and therefore I would have a greater outcome.
In my next film production I am going to have a detailed story line to the film I am making a trailer for and will ensure that everything I do will be planed to the last detail, this will include camera shots I wish to use, actors costumes, props and all the details that I had missed in this years film production.

Targets I wish to set for Mise-en-scene :
I would like to have a clear setting in my next film production, Although I did have a clear setting in the wood for this years production, I feel that simply having props with in my setting that shows reverence to the story line will add to the drama and engage the target audience. Also in my next film production I wish to have clear costumes for my character so that the audience watching can really get to grips on what my films about.

Targets I wish to set for Camera Composition :
Although I feel that in making my film this year I did succeed in using a rage of camera shots, using high angle shots, match on action shots, medium and full length shots, I still feel that there is a lot of room for improvement for Camera Composition for my Trailer next year.I feel I could use close up shots to show their facial expressions so that the audience can connect to how that character is feeling. I could also use point of view shots again this shot is very effective in getting the audience to see in the eyes of that character but also feel a connection to that character.

Targets I wish to set for Editing:
I feel that I could use cuts from shots to show or portray characters or relationship between characters in a certain way. To possibly make the audience feel a connection between this editing. I could also use fast pace and slow pace editing to portray the characters, their relationships or simply the mood within the film.

Targets I wish to set for Sound:
I wish to have either a voice over from the main character of my film or scripted speech from characters of my film for the next project I do.  I think this would help the audience watching to know what is going on and the story line to my film. i would also like to use music to help portray the type of film I am creating.

Evaluation- What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

This is a samsung S4 Mini, the phone me and my partner used to film the shots and footage of our film Elvira. we used YouTube videos to help us when editing our film and these videos where extremely useful. We also used YouTube to put up our film and preliminary task. For all of the Editing, sound of our film we used Adobe premier, this was a useful programme in helping us to do this with many tools that were simple yet effective use of equipment. To post all of our course work we used blogger, but we however also used blogger to look at previous students work so that we knew the standard of work we must give to get a high grade.

story board of my film

Evaluation- how did you attract/ address your audience

Wednesday, 18 March 2015

Evaluation: Looking back on your preliminary tasks, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

Both Editing and camerawork of my film, looking back on my preliminary task are very similar. There is a match on action shot in my preliminary task when Chloe is searching for a book and in my film we also used a match on action shot of actor Kieron when going under the tree so we could empathize the tension to the audience.

looking back on my preliminary task i have learnt about production credits and how to edit shots so that they fade in and out to make a dramatic effect. In our preliminary shot we used several camera shots match on action, close up, 360 rule, shot- reverse-shot, over the shoulder shot. and fast pace editing. however the camera stayed on one level and therefore didn't show the full extent of depth in meaning to the clip. In our film we had a high angle shot along with low angle shots which helped us to get the full depth of meaning to come across to the audience watching.

As you can see both the picture to the right and to the bottom left there is both match on action shots of the characters hand. In the preliminary task you can see that this shot is used to show the audience what the character is doing. in my film the shot is used to show the characters vulnerability as he is on taken obstacles to make his way him.

G321 Final - Opening to Elvira

Evaluation, In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products ?

This is a close up of the first victim of Elvira in the opening scene of my film. when He is moving under a tree branch this brings depth and tension to the shot as he is seen a vulnerable and weak as he is on his own and this close up shot is used to empathize this. By creating depth and tension is this shot makes the film more exiting for the audience and therefore integrating  them into my film.

This is an ancient  drawing of an exorcism  with a quote from the bible on exorcisms. This shot shows the audience what the film is going to be about. Also the darkness of this shot shows that the film will be dark and gloomy and therefor showing the audience what is waiting ahead. This shot it designed to hint to the audience on what the film has in store but also not revealing much and therefor teasing the audience. This shot also shows that the genre of this film is horror.
This shot is the start of my film. This is dark so shows that the film will also be dark and fearful. yet is not to revealing so that i can keep the audience interested in the continuing shot ahead.
Many other films start with production titles and this is also why i thought it should be my first shot.

This is a wide shot of the first victim of Elvira. This shot is very good as it empathizes the fact that he is alone with nothing but nature surrounding him. This makes the audience watching see him as vulnerable and brings tension as the audience are anticipating what is lying ahead for the victim/ character within this shot. The victim/ character in this shot is called Chris in my film. He is young and to show this in my  shot i have surrounded him with big trees and a wide surrounding to emphasize  his vulnerability and showing his weakness. This shot is also good as it shows the setting/location where my film will be set. Woods are a very typical setting for a horror films, 'The ward' like my film a horror film with paranormal activity occurring also has an opening scene set in the wood.

This shot is an action shot, showing the villain Elvira taking her first victim to the floor. its a long shot showing a the full body of both Elvira and her victim.

This again is an action shot but of the victim Chris running from Villain Elvira. this shot shows a clear view of the setting to the film. Hes surrounded by endless open nature. no one else is to be seen and he is completely alone. The audience can see the despair in his facial expression. This shot is unlike previous shots where Chris felt comfort, he now clearly expresses his fear for his own safety.

Evaluation, Who would be the audience for your media product?

My Target audiences is  female teenagers in the age of 15-19.
The tastes my target audience would be mystery, action, friendship and romance. these are all aspects i fell my film has. They would listen to Hip-hop, R&B, POP and rap. this is all music that i feel will be with in the film as well. The TV shows they would watch would be 'Derek', 'Pretty Little Liars', 'Ghost Hunters' these all hold mystery and action all aspects of which my film has.

My target audience is also male teenagers in the age of 15-19.
The tastes of my target audience would be Action, Horror, Mystery and comedy. I feel my film would possess each of these aspects and doing so appealing to my target audience. The TV programs he would watch would be 'Derek', 'Pretty Little Liars', 'CSI' and 'Broad Church' all of which show a villain who is at large and the process of them being caught and the back ground to why they did what they did, which will be the story of my film so appealing to my target audience.

Evaluation: On how my media product represents particular social groups ?

The Character Chris from my film is killed of in the first scene and so we didn't want the audience to connect with this character. So because of this we has a stereotypical teenager to play this part. He fits into many stereotypical characteristics and so this will mean that the audience watching will not be interested by this character so which is what we want as we wont be mentioning much about this opening character.

settings to my film

My opening two minutes of my film were shot in the woods. The reason behind it being that i feel the woods have a spooky feel to it and watching many horror films I realized that they were mainly shot in big abandoned houses, hospitals and woods when concerning paranormal activity. My film consist of paranormal activity and so having one of these popular settings in my film i fell will make my film better. As  I couldn't film in abandoned houses or a hospital as they are private buildings and in need of permission to film on. I choose to shot my film in the woods as it is a public place and in that sense could make my film that much more freaky as this possessed girl is killing victims without being seen even with all these people walking around.

film title

I used this film title as this is the name of the main character and villain of my film. Elvira means 'mistress of darkness' as so i feel fits in perfectly with the villain of my film as she is possessed and that is a alter-met  element of darkness,

I used this style of text because i feel that that its clean and sharp which may keep the viewers on the edge of their seats as the title may suggest that danger is coming within the film. Also i feel the style of this title shows the audience the genre of the film which is horror and it is this reason on why i choose to use this title in my film.

Changes to my film

I had to make a few changes to my film as the original actors i was planning to do my film were unable to do get to the filming. so we altered the story line of my film to compromise around this.
we altered the opening two minutes to one single victim walking home through the woods.
